Author Biography: Citizens for NYC helps New Yorkers improve their neighborhoods by providing small grants, workshops, information, and assistance to grassroots volunteer groups throughout the city. Kenneth T. Jackson, the Jacques Barzun Professor of History and the Social Sciences at Columbia University and president of the New-York Historical Society, is also the editor of The Encyclopedia of New York City, published by Yale University Press. John B. Manbeck was Brooklyn Borough Historian from 1993-2001.
