    Synopsis

Agatha Christie’s beloved sleuth Miss Marple is back in this compelling audio version of one of Christie’s most adored and adapted novels. Jerry Burton and his sister Joanna are living in an English village as Jerry recovers from a disabling airplane accident. But when vicious letters begin arriving all over town — including a few addressed to Burton — one recipient takes her own life and another is murdered. Burton takes on the case, but only Miss Marple can unlock the secrets of this troubling tale. Her simple but ever-effective approach is immortalized once again in this reading, performed by veteran actor Martin Jarvis.

    Biography

Agatha Christie is nearly synonymous with upper-class British mysteries, for good reason. She set the standard for the genre in over 60 novels and dozens of short stories, also creating two classic detectives: the fastidious Belgian, Hercule Poirot, and English spinster Jane Marple. No one could match Christie's knack for weaving clues into her stories, then turning the whole thing inside out -- shocking her readers every time.

June 06, 2009: This is a truly fascinating plot, very twisty, and the nice little romance, along with period atmosphere and setting, makes it a treat for the English mystery-lover.

I Also Recommend: Gaudy Night (A Lord Peter Wimsey Mystery), Clutch of Constables (A Roderick Alleyn Mystery), Brat Farrar, The Body in the Library (Miss Marple Series), The Fashion in Shrouds (Albert Campion Series #10).

July 10, 2006: The book, overall, was not bad at all. I personally prefer Christie's Poirot-centric novels but this one was entertaining enough. The plot was clever and the ending definately satisfying. It's definately worth picking up while at the library or book store.
