Reviewer:Marian P LaMonte, MD, MSN (University of Maryland School of Medicine)
Description:This second edition is a necessary update in the fast changing field of neurology practice. The authors provide practitioners with information on diverse aspects of neurology while maintaining their concise, "finger tip" format.
Purpose:This edition provides updates in the fields of stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and neuroimaging. Neurologic examination, differential diagnoses, evaluation and management are highlighted. The book includes relevant topics in medicine pertinent to the care of neurological patients.
Audience:The book is written for all levels of readers, from medical students to experienced practitioners. By cataloging the most important practice information needs, the authors successfully reach their targeted audience.
Features:This edition covers evaluation and management of neurological disorders, the neurologic exam, and testing and laboratory methods, while using easy to read tables and charts for basic neuroanatomy, diagnostic differentials, and treatments. It presents a good combination of depth and breadth of information in neurology and medicine in an easy to use and pocket-sized manual. Kudos to the publisher who manages to maximize the book's usefulness with the judicious use of fonts, tables, charts, illustrations, and appendixes. The next edition should focus on primary headache syndromes and movement disorders for which there are newer FDA-approved treatments not included in this edition.
Assessment:This second edition is welcome due to growth in the field of neurologicdiagnosis and treatment. This book is probably one of the best for those who still like their information in a non-electronic format.
