      Synopsis

This wickedly delightful parody of a children's book cleverly lampoons President Bush, who seems to go happily about the White House with no apparent interest in current events or pressing issues of national security. Inside each pocket page is a fictional piece of mail addressed to the commander-in-chief. The letters, postcards, and greeting cards tucked into the book deliver delicious laughs for the reader. What could be in the letter from Saddam Hussein? What exactly does Osama bin Laden want? What's the good word from Dick Cheney? and why hasn't the president read any of these important messages?

May 09, 2006: Joey Green has really tapped into the current feelings of much of America with his latest book The Jolly President. In a very spot on, humorous, and creative way he points out exactly what the current Administration should have known or should have done (or even not done) when faced with the pressing issues of our time -- terrorism, Iraq, Katrina, our obsession with oil, our personal rights, etc. I have shared Joey's book with many of my friends and they agree, and all get a good laugh out of each of the letters to the President. It is incredible to hear that no publisher would go ahead and run with Joey's book, and amazing that Joey was able to get this published and distributed on his own. I recommend this book for anyone who is politically inclined, is a fan of Jon Stewart, the Colbert Report and SNL's Weekend Update, and would like a humorous break from an Administration that has two more years or so to go!
