Synopsis

Whisked away from his comfortable, unambitious life in his hobbit-hole by Gandalf the wizard and a company of dwarves, Bilbo Baggins finds himself caught up in a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.

Annotation

Bilbo Baggins, a respectable, well-to-do hobbit, lives comfortably in his hobbit-hole until the day the wandering wizard Gandalf chooses him to take part in an adventure from which he may never return.

Horn Book Guide

All those, young or old, who love a finely imagined story, beautifully told, will take The Hobbit to their hearts.

Biography

It seems an unlikely formula for success: an Oxford professor of Anglo-Saxon, and a book that begins with a little man who lives in a hole in the ground. But The Hobbit, followed by The Lord of the Rings, created the modern genre of heroic fantasy and made J.R.R. Tolkien one of the most widely-read authors in the world.

Customer Rating for this product is 5 out of 5 A fantastic story.

Like many others I saw the lord of the rings movies, fell in love with them and decided to read the books. I decided to start with the hobbit and then read the Lord of the rings. Mr. Tolkein did a fabulous job at telling bilbo's story and i think he is amazing at delivering stories. This is a book all book lovers should read.

Also recommended: anything by Cormac McCarthy, shakespeare, and poe, fahrenheit 451, harry Potter, to kill a mockingbird, Lord of the flies, etc.

I have seen the lord of the ring's movie and I liked them so I decided to read the Hobbit and now I am so into it I can barley put it down there is a lot of action in it and is suspensful once I finish the hobbit I will start on the fellowship of the ring, but this book is worth every penny.
