Grilling is one of America's favorite outdoor pastimes. No wonder-nothing makes mouths water like the tantalizing aroma of a steak or burger on the grill. It just wouldn't be summer without a backyard get-together complete with cold drinks and a hot grill turning out ribs, chicken and corn on the cob for friends and neighbors. Cooking on a grill is amazingly easy provided you understand the basics and master a few simple techniques. The Grilling Bible will answer your questions, give you invaluable tips and turn you into an expert on everything from wood chips to homemade sauce.
Whether you're already a grill master or just starting out, The Grilling Bible provides everything you need to know, beginning with information on how to choose a grill and light a fire. Read about the pros and cons of gas versus charcoal. Understand the advantages of a chimney starter over lighter fluid. Tame the flames with tips on handling flare-ups and a simple explanation of the difference between direct and indirect grilling.
You'll find a guide to choosing the right tools for grilling and a Grilling Glossary that demystifies terms such as "lump charcoal" and "smoker box." There's information on backyard safety, plus important food safety rules that many folks overlook. (Did you know that marinade can be dangerous if not handled properly?)
You'll learn the right cuts of beef, lamb and pork to grill and get a quick course in turning out the perfect burger. To prepare everyone's favorite outdoor feast-steak-you'll get information on the different cooking requirements for different cuts and even learn how to create perfect grill marks. There's advice on getting the best out of any bird, whether you're grilling a boneless chicken breast or a Thanksgiving turkey. If you've ever wondered how to grill a whole fish or how to determine when a salmon steak is done, the answers are right here in The Grilling Bible. There are plenty of tips, charts and photos, too, so information is easy to understand.
Of course, no grilling book could earn its place on the shelf without recipes and The Grilling Bible has more than 150 of them. You'll find new takes on barbecue classics, such as Shish Kabobs and Maple-Mustard-Glazed Spareribs. The seafood chapter covers everything from lobster tail to salmon burgers. Want to try grilling artichokes or tomatoes? It's easy-check out the vegetable chapter. Since grilling is a great excuse for a party, there are also plenty of ideas for foods to share, from Spicy Apricot Sesame Wings to Fajita-Style Beef Wraps.
Nothing beats the flavor of grilled food or the fun of cooking outdoors. Even the humblest burger or hot dog becomes a celebration when it's kissed by smoke and fire and enjoyed with friends in the shade on a summer day. The Grilling Bible is chockful of the information, photos, recipes and tips to inspire you. So what are you waiting for? Come on outside and light your fire.
