    Synopsis

The world's greatest book, beautifully illustrated and written in a clear, simple style for children, has been approved by an editorial board consisting of leaders from the Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish faiths.

    Children's Literature

In an introduction the publishers explain the construction of this adaptation of the Bible into six parts: four in the Old Testament and two in the New Testament. They share insight such as "there is a divine plan in history and a purpose in human life." It is stated that since the four Gospels "contain one message, they are here combined as a single story." There is an extensive table of contents. Other helpful historical notes are scattered throughout. Although the picture on the cover shows Jesus with brown hair, the same picture and others within show Jesus as a blond. A few Psalms are included which use "thee" and "thou." Other language draws upon vocabulary from the King James version—for example, Jesus' words to the invalid at the pool: "Behold, you are well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come to you." When Jonathan gives David a sign that his life is in danger from Saul: "Jonathan cried out to the lad and said: 'Is not the arrow beyond you?' And again he cried: 'Make haste, do not delay!'" Children may be put off by the dated illustrations and vocabulary.

August 03, 2009: This book is a great way to start introducing young children to Bible stories. The illustrations are beautiful, not that new computer style but those traditional paintings. I enjoyed reading through it, and even not use it for toddlers.

March 13, 2009: My 9 year old daughter received many gifts for Christmas but her favorite by far was this Bible. She reads it all the time. She says the stories are interesting. This Bible also promotes spiritual discussions. Since my daughter loved her Bible so much, I purchased another one for my niece for her 8th birthday and the response was the same.
