      July 04, 2009: This was the first book by McKillip that I read, when it first appeared in the 70's. It made me a dedicated fan/reader and I have read everyting she has written since, including her short stories when I have found them. Her writing, at it's best, has the magical quality that one finds in the very best traditional fairy tales.

      I Also Recommend: Sabriel (Abhorsen Trilogy Series #1), Dealing with Dragons (Enchanted Forest Chronicles Series #1), Graceling, The King of Elfland's Daughter, Golden Compass (His Dark Materials Series #1).

      March 17, 2009: This story was a favorite of mine when I was a kid and I still enjoy rereading it today. Highly recommended for young girls because of the strong heroine, but anyone who enjoys fantasy or McKillip's work will love this book.
