More Reviews and RecommendationsFew authors have tapped into our secret fears as adeptly as Stephen King, Master of the Macabre and one of the most widely read novelists writing today. With his trademark blend of fantasy, horror, and psychological suspense, this prolific and immensely popular contemporary writer continues to remind us that evil is still a potent force in the world.

June 17, 2009: read this book when it was first released and remembered enjoying it at that time. Now, I have re-read it again and believe that I enjoyed it even more than the initial reading.
The tone of the book is reminiscent of fairy tales of my youth. All the ingredients (a kingdom, good and bad royals, faithful servants, an evil force, a murder most foul, high adventure, mythical beasts) combine for a magical venture into the realm of fantasy. This is an easy read. Don't read too much into the story. It is simply fantasy done extremely well. I am an avid Stephen King fan and of all his works this one ranks #2 in my book - right after The StandReader Rating:

March 14, 2009: Stephen King.....like you never read him before. The reason why I thought of this,is because this book. Is not like any other writing's of Stephen King. When you think of Stephen King, you think bloody, scary, mystery. extraordinary. All these adjectives describe King very well.
However, this particular book is different, in so many ways. The writing style was different, the writing format was different, the storyline was different, and last but not least the ending was different.I really enjoyed this book, not because it was one of my favorite authors books. But because it seem as if he took his time, and really stepped out of his element. I really enjoyed this book. But first understand this, its not like any other Stephen King book you ever read. And it doesn't have all that blood and gore that we also love from our favorite author Stephen King!!!! Excellent book: 5 Stars,2 thumps up, and all ten's across the board!!! LOL.
