Who was John? What Edward Smith has to say on this vexed topic is both extraordinarily suggestive and remarkably conclusive. Covering a broad range, the author masterfully supplies us with a range of collateral materials that are always interesting in themselves as well as necessary to the larger discussion.
Because this little book began its life as a talk to an audience of non-specialists, it is blessedly free of jargon and reader-friendly. Yet this is not to say it lacks depth, sophistication, and bite. Indeed, within the field of study it addresses, it works a quietly profound revolution. New Testament scholars as well as those concerned in any way the future of Christianity should sit up and take note. If you would like a better understanding of the mystery of Jesus Christ and his “beloved disciple,” you will find here real food for mind and heart.
Edward Reaugh Smith is an Illinoisan transplanted to Texas at mid-century. He is a successful lawyer and businessman as well as an amateur musician and athlete. His broad-ranging interests in life include a long search for the deeper meaning of the Bible, which he has taught for over twenty-five years. This led to his discovery of the writings of Rudolf Steiner. He is also the author of The Burning Bush and The Incredible Births of Jesus.

August 18, 2002: The author has done a marvelous job revealing that the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation were both written by one man, the beloved disciple of Christ Jesus, the one that he brought back from the dead, the only disciple who made it to the Cross for the Deed on Golgotha in full consciousness, the one to whom the dying Christ entrusted his blessed mother to: Lazarus who was renamed John after his resurrection by Christ. John comes from Johanna or Jahweh's Grace -- the grace of God.
