The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Theory breaks down a difficult subject in a simple way-even for those who think they have no rhythm or consider themselves tone deaf. With clear, concise language, it explains everything from bass-clef basics to confusing codas.
Michael Miller is the author of several successful music guides, including The Complete Idiot's Guide to Songwriting, Second Edition, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Solos and Improvisation, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Playing Drums, Second Edition, and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Composition.

March 13, 2007: I have been playing guitar for about 3 years now, and have learned many things along the different styles of playing guitar, but I came to a point at which I felt that something was still missing and that was guitar theory. I was going to have someone teach me (I still may), but I felt that I should try out a book first. After digging into this music theory book, just after the first two chapters I felt like I am learning so much. I feel that this book is an essential to those who want to further their knowledge in music. This book is one of my most valued books!

February 03, 2005: I would like to begin my review by saying that I own two music theory books. One is a book called 'Basic Principles of Music Theory', written by Karl Brye around the early 50's. The other is 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Theory'. After multiple attempts to read Brye's book (succumbing every time to boredom-induced catnaps) I picked up Mr. Miller's book and read it cover-to-cover... and then read it again. This book epitomizes the entire series of Idiot's Guides and is absolutely enjoyable to read. I would suggest it to any high school student or older musician looking to review the ins and outs of music. Even more amazing to me was that, after reading this book, I was able to pick up the Brye book and read it without going comatose!!!
