      Synopsis

This book provides an organizational framework, detailed models, lessons and practical support for mapping and building grade-specific curriculum across the school year through four major types of units of study—strategy, process, genre, and conventions—that integrate reading and writing. Allyn equips teachers to identify the big ideas and deep understandings they want to develop in children and shows how to use them framing a year, a unit and a lesson in the teaching of reading and writing. For use with Grades K–6.

November 01, 2008: This book is a great framework of how a unit, daily lesson, and yearly plan in literacy would look in elementary grade levels. It gives a teacher a big view of the year at a glance as well as units, down to the day to day schedule. It also gives a suggested framework for which units would be best to teach grammar skills. I recommend this resource to teachers using the workshop model during their literacy time or for teachers who are interested in effective strategies to teach literacy.

She also has books by grade level!!
