When Raven returns to Hipsterville's cryptic goth haunt, the Coffin Club, she discovers a secret door to another disco-"The Dungeon"-that is inhabited by vampires only. Raven learns that the nefarious Jagger Maxwell has welcomed the vampire clan into the club and has gained the popularity he missed in Romania. He is poised to take over Hipsterville, until a new vampire named Phoenix challenges him for control of the Coffin Club. Unbeknownst to Alexander, Raven becomes caught up in the clash, entranced by the hypnotic vampire culture of the Underworld. A surprising twist at the end reveals that Phoenix is really Alexander! Alexander frequented the club in disguise to try to thwart Jagger's plans to expose the club's vampire clientele to the town.
Raven really misses her vampire boyfriend Alexander. She cannot imagine what could be keeping him away, so she begins searching the town for him. During her searches, she discovers a secret aspect to her favorite nightspot, the Coffin Club. Behind a secret door in the club lies an even more exclusive spot: a vampire-only area where the drinks are all blood and the clientele are all dead. Even though Raven realizes the danger, she is drawn to the club, she cannot keep away. When she discovers that Jasper, Alexander's old rival has sinister plans involving the club, Raven tries to keep herself safe while still seeking her boyfriend. While Raven's exploration of the club are interesting, her motivations for doing so while putting herself in danger seem unclear. The vampire mythos seems inconsistent with traditional lore. For example, why can vampires not tell Raven is human immediately? Still, Book Five of the "Vampire Kisses" series is an entertaining vampire adventure/romance. Reviewer: Amie Rose Rotruck

October 09, 2009: The characterization in The Coffin Club can be a little silly, but it's endearingly silly. Raven might be a little ditzy and clueless about what vampires are really like, but fortunately, the vampires in her world aren't too dangerous. Though, as she finds out when she follows Alexander, her vampire sweetheart, to "Hipsterville", she ventures deeper into the secret recesses of the town's Goth club, she finds that there's more going on among Alexander's kindred than she first assumed. There is trouble brewing at the Dungeon between Jagger and Phoenix, and the vampire world in Hipsterville may forever be changed. Caught between the mortal and immortal world, Raven again struggles with who she should be. Does she give everything up to be with Alexander for eternity, or should she remain mortal and see how things progress? This book is definitely my favorite in the series so far. It's so much fun, and the kisses are heating up between the couple. I can't wait to read the next one!
