      Synopsis

A funny yet bittersweet look at one of the most intelligent comic strips ever to grace the pages of newspapers. After providing a detailed and fascinating look at the impact of newspapers, syndicates, and editors on a comic strip, Watterson turns his focus toward the battle to not have "Calvin and Hobbes" merchandised in the form of T-shirts, dolls, and the like. The victory was moot, however. Shortly after winning his battle, he retired the strip anyway.

      Annotation

In November 1985, the magic of Calvin and Hobbes first appeared on the funny pages, introducing the world to a wondrous pair of friends. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of this distinguished partnership between a six-year-old boy and his (sometimes) stuffed tiger, Watterson has prepared a special book, which shares his thoughts on cartooning and is illustrated throughout with black-and-white and color cartoons.

May 04, 2009: The world is a strange place, and Calvin and his pet/mentor/friend/security blanket navigate all the confusing and often contradictatory currents and backwaters. They find fun in strange places, and learn disturbing truths from even stranger sources.

Calvin is all of us, and anyone who can't see themselves in him is in denial.

This book has virtually all the best moments from the strip.
