February 05, 2009: My 6 year old daughter LOVES this book. We have read it many times and she loves the movie as well. It's a story about a team of sled dogs, lead by Balto that deliver medicine to a snowy town during a storm. It is a very heartwarming and courageous story. Balto saves his girlfriend's owner, a little girl, and the rest of the infected in this town. It is a true story and there is actually a statue of Balto in Central Park which endears my daughter to the story more since we live in NYC. It is suitable for 6 and up, and my daughter who is an excellent reader can read it on her own. However, we prefer reading it together. Wonderful first chapter book for starting readers. Good for a boy or girl.
