December 10, 2008: Not a lot of people know about this great book on checkmates. It takes all of the important checkmate themes, breaks them down and explains in detail (with nice examples) how each one works. This is not a substitute for a book if you don't know basics (get "Chess for Everyone" for that), but a great book to improve your strategy and beats out the "newer" books that cover checkmate themes!
I Also Recommend: Chess For Everyone.

June 19, 2006: The different Checkmate Patterns are broken down by type of checkmate with the names of each given, a written explaination and definition and lots of examples. The book is made fun by providing postions to find the checkmates. This is an extremely well organized book. I wish it was written in algebraic notation, only drawback to the book.
