DAVID FORGACS is coeditor of Antonio Gramsci Selections from Cultural Writings and editor of Rethinking Italian Fascism. He is Professor in the Department of Italian, University College, University of London. ERIC J. HOBSBAWM is Emeritus Professor of Economics and Social History, Birkbeck College, University of London. He is the author of Industry and Empire and The Age of Extremes, among other books.
