      Synopsis

For the Seven Oaks friends, there is always something to do. Whether they're singing along with Pokey Porcupine's harmonica or playing soccer with Jumper Rabbit, everyone is having fun and learning all sorts of things. These seven stories show how practicing the 7 Habits makes this possible for the whole Seven Oaks Community.

From learning how to take charge of their own lives to discovering how balance is best, the Seven Oaks friends have tons of adventures and find out how each and every kid can be a happy kid!

      Children's Literature

To develop the theme of seven habits, Sean Covey has created a fantastic seven-chapter storybook for parents and children. Each of the chapters is an independent story that can be read separately, but later chapters build on earlier ones. Reading is a social activity, and this book would be a strong choice for parents and children to share during reading times. The author states three main purposes: to illustrate the power of living according to principle and character, to develop a common language between parents, teachers and children, and to help them apply the concepts to themselves through the characters. The book begins with an introduction of the characters that appear in all seven chapters or stories. One story, entitled "Bored, Bored, Bored" highlights the "habit" of being proactive and taking charge of one's happiness. Each story ends with a "Parent's Corner," in which the author points out ways that the story relates to him—and maybe to the reader—to make a personal connection. There are also discussion questions for parents to use to monitor understanding, as well as suggestions for taking "baby steps" for action. Reviewer: Charles E. Kreinbucher

March 02, 2009: I was so glad to see that Sean Covey had written a book for children on the 7 Habits.

The characters are such fun and it is beautifully illustrated. The map of the village is very inviting. I shared a copy with my grandson and he wanted it read again and again. The characters teach important lessons in a way that relates to children. Thank you. I have bought a copy for all the younger children in my life. I used Stephen Covey's book with groups for years. I never liked the title, but the concepts are spot on.

Great for reading with your children!!!by JUJU21
