Hip Hop Icon 50 Cent joins forces with bestselling author Robert Greene (The 48 Laws of Power- 800,000 copies sold) to write a "bible" for success in life and work, by living by one simple principle: fear nothing.
"Overcoming our fear is not easy . . . it requires working against the grain of our nature." - 50 Cent & Robert Greene
When Robert Greene published The 48 Laws of Power in 2000, a book that has sold over 800,000 copies, he had no idea the book would become a mega cult classic- and not just amongst business types. Indeed, managers, producers, and aspiring artists in the hip hop community embraced Greene's tactics to survive and thrive in the cut throat music industry (tactics which are largely based on historical figures like Napoleon and Nietzsche).
One such survivor who credits Greene's work with his success is Curtis Jackson (aka 50 cent). 50, who was born in South Jamaica and started dealing crack at the age of 12, used the tactics in The 48 laws to help him indentify friend from foe, opportunity from opposition, and ultimately triumph in a dog eat dog industry; In 2008 50 was named by Forbes magazine as the #1 earning Hip Hop Cash King.
But the single most defining moment in 50s life, he says, is when he completely let go of his fear.
Fear nothing, and you shall succeed. This is the basic tenant of a groundbreaking collaboration between 50 and Green which includes intimate stories from 50s life on the streets and in the boardroom, as well as examples of others who have overcome adversity through understanding and practicing the 50th law. At turns hard-nosed and deeply inspirational, this is a book for entrepreneurs as well asanyone interested in the extraordinary life of Curtis Jackson.
The 48 laws of Power offer maneuvers for the chess game of life; The 50th Law gives you the courage to sit down at the table.

November 11, 2009: I really enjoyed the 50th Law and feels that it allows Robert Greene to recap much of what is in the 48 Laws of Power for a new generation. The 50th Law is of course one Law in its own and I hate having to explain to my peers (I'm in my 30s) why there is no 49th Law. People of my age or older balk at taking advice from a rap artist, especially those who don't like rap music. Keep this in mind if you plan to gift this. It is a book I would give to my mother because she is into rap. I would not gift it to my father despite his appreciation of history like what Greene includes in all his works. The presence of 50th Cent is enough that he would not consider this a valid work of philosophy.
