Description: This atlas presents interventional radiology and its many procedures in a quick, organized, easy to read format. Clinical history, physical findings, appropriate testing, and treatment options including descriptions explaining the interventional procedures are provided, usually in a page or two.
Purpose: The authors' intent to provide a broad, comprehensive, case-based presentation of interventional radiology is unique and important for students, residents, and physicians in all phases of their careers. Dr. Funaki and his associates certainly exceed their goals and do it succinctly.
Audience: Although written for students and residents, the book also would be worthwhile for physicians throughout their careers. As interventional radiology continues to change, future editions would be equally instructive. The authors demonstrate their expertise in both the vascular and nonvascular areas of interventional radiology through the quality of the information and the inclusion of the many varied types of procedures interventional radiologists perform.
Features: The atlas provides a comprehensive overview demonstrating the types of cases and clinical situations that interventional radiology impacts. The authors provide the information in a compact format consistently used throughout the book. The numerous varieties of vascular cases are well covered. The quick but comprehensive format provides valuable information, but requires only minutes of the reader's time. Unfortunately, a few of the images have been cropped incorrectly.
Assessment: Overall, this delivers an excellent overview of the types of conditions that interventional radiologists can assist with to provide optimal patient care. This is an excellent quick reference guide and provides additional references for in-depth reading.
