    Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Edward Abraham, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description:This second edition pocketbook is an extensive collection of medical facts about the musculoskeletal system and treatment strategies for disorders and trauma.
Purpose:The purpose is to serve as a quick reference of medical facts and therapeutics useful for the orthopedist caring for patients. These important objectives are met for the most part. The author, an assistant professor of surgery, Uniformed Services University, and staff orthopedic surgeon, Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, Texas, is fully qualified to write on this topic.
Audience:The book is written mainly for orthopedic clinicians and orthopedic residents. However, there is useful factual information for any medical personnel caring for patients with disorders of any aspect of the musculoskeletal system.
Features:The book includes useful information on trauma protocol, anatomy, antimicrobials, emergency procedures and trauma, general and pediatric orthopedics. Figures and tables are used to present most of the information, which is extensive. Classifications and treatment options for most fractures are presented in table form. The index is thorough and most important for this kind of work. No references are provided.
Assessment:The author, with the help of an editorial board, has produced a most useful compendium of medical knowledge relevant for the physician or other medical personnel caring for patients with musculoskeletal problems. I strongly recommend this pocket reference book to all clinicians and residents caring for orthopedicpatients.

August 07, 2009: The best little lab-coat pocket "cheat-sheet" book in the Department. Beautiful, classic diagrams. Idiot-proof explannations. I noticed that all of our graduates from our Residency program had a well-worn-out copy of this book somewhere on top of their most used posessions.
