David Soltesz - Library Journal

Environmental groups are among the first to build administrative and educational facilities following sustainable design principles, but they often lack the resources to publicize their efforts to a wide audience. As remedy, award-winning architect and sustainable design specialist Moskow here offers a portfolio of 20 diverse projects from the last ten years that he and other leading "green" architects executed for organizations such as the World Birding Center and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Moskow chiefly addresses the structural, mechanical, and economic aspects of each project, limiting aesthetic judgments to how aptly a facility utilizes natural materials and is integrated into its site. This informative text, however, is ill served by a preponderance of mid-quality black-and-white illustrations and some amateurish color photos. Still, the projects showcased here should inspire practicing and aspiring architects. Those ready for the next step can then refer to Charles J. Kibert's Sustainable Construction: Green Building Design and Delivery for a nuts-and-bolts textbook treatment on design and construction of large-scale facilities. Both are recommended for academic and professional collections.
