Description:This book presents a visual display, using either actual photographs or cartoon characters, of topics in perioperative nursing. Along with the drawings are simple explanations or descriptions of the topic.
Purpose:Although there is no preface or foreword, a section entitled "On Broadway" has "clips" that indicate the purpose is to present pictures of surgical equipment and procedures. It appears that the intent is to provide visuals that the student can tie in with the content.
Audience:This seems designed to appeal more to younger learners. The visuals could be used in class to highlight a point.
Features:Along with the colorful visuals are some select current references. One example is the material on wound infections, which includes tables on what to look for, what to do, wound drainage descriptors, and the early signs of wound infections.
Assessment:This book would be good for use with visual learners as it provides examples of what different tubes and wounds would look like.
