Purpose:Flying, driving, or operating upon the facial skeleton all require a road map to prevent losing one's way. The authors have constructed a book that allows surgeons the opportunity to access the craniofacial skeleton through a step-by-step process. Other books on a similar theme are often distracted by a desire to repair the skeleton without detailing the procedures necessary to expose these defects. This book emphasizes the surgical approach, rather than the final repair.
Audience:These eminent oral and maxillofacial surgeons have assembled a sequel to their popular first edition detailing the necessary topographic exposure requisite for surgeons in oral, maxillofacial, craniofacial, and plastic surgery and otolaryngology. The volume contains 14 chapters, of which 13 describe a specific surgical approach. The first chapter discusses basic principles involved in surgical approaches. The remaining 13 chapters are organized into sections, based predominantly on the region of the face being exposed. Often more than one surgical procedure is presented for each region, with the advantages and disadvantages of each presented, and with the choice left to the surgeon. Suggestions are also made for the use of instruments that have been found useful for incising, retracting, and manipulating the tissues involved with each surgical approach.
