A spirited retelling, perfect for fans of Shannon Hale and Donna Jo Napoli.
When a great white bear promises untold riches to her family, the Lass agrees to go away with him. But the bear is not what he seems, nor is his castle. To unravel the mystery, the Lass sets out on a windswept journey beyond the edge of the world. Based on the Nordic legend East of the Sun, West of the Moon, with romantic echoes of Beauty and the Beast, this re-imagined story will leave fans of fantasy and fairy tale enchanted by Jessica Day George.
A Teen Top Ten
“A vivid, well-crafted, poetic fantasy for readers . . . who are ready to move from Gail Carson Levine to more sophisticated fare.” —Booklist
A lifelong reader and writer of fantasy fiction, Jessica Day George studied at Brigham Young University where she enjoyed classes in pottery-making and Old Norse, and dutifully forced herself to sit through biology and math. Originally from Idaho, she now resides in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her husband, their young son, and a five pound Maltese named Pippin. Dragon Slippers is her first novel for young readers. November 26, 2009: This is one of my all time favorite books. I love how Jessica can transform one thing, into a whole new fun filled adventure! This book is unforgetable. I've done a few book shares in my classes and people say that they read it also because the small part I shared made them want to read it. I am warning you, once you start, it will be hard to stop, even if you finish the book. Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow, is absolutly amazing. I never would have been able to think of anything like it. I could picture everything that was happening. From trolls, to friendship, to true love, you will want to hang on to this book until death. I wish this book to be a series for more enjoyment. I can't even name all the words to discribe this book, but here's a couple...adventureous, thrilling, spectacular.
