      Synopsis

In SUMMER BOYS, Beth, Ella, and Kelsi ruled Pebble Beach. Now it's time for 3 new girls to rock the summer.

JESSICA: Liam is the cutest guy I've ever seen and he loves the beach as much as I do. So how do I show him I'd make a better girlfriend than friend?

GREER I could be tanning on glam French beaches, but instead I'm "family-bonding" in Maine. At least the boys are hot - especially Brady. So what if he has a clingy ex-girlfriend?

LARA: Just my luck. I've fallen hard for the one boy who's totally off limits. If only I could stop kissing him...

Sunning, sneaking out and skinny-dipping. Get ready for the hottest summer ever in this spin-off to the NEW YORK TIMES bestselling series.

      Gr 9 Up

Like Summer Boys (Scholastic, 2004), this is a fun seasonal read. Jessica, Greer, and Lara couldn't be farther apart in style and personality. Jessica is the good-girl athlete hoping to replicate the wonderful summer days she spent with her older cousins, introduced in the first book. Her cousin Greer is the rich New Yorker who's never spent any time with her extended family, and Lara is the newcomer; her mom recently married into the family. The teens' mishaps and adventures are engaging and will hold readers' interest. There's plenty of romance, misunderstandings, and vacation fun, but the references to certain bands and celebrities might make this book dated before summer's end. Sexuality and drinking are referenced, but nothing is explicitly described. A good recommendation for readers wanting to wile away those long, lazy days.-Traci Glass, Eugene Public Library, OR

May 06, 2009: The Tuttle family makes their way back to Maine for the summer, after the cabins have been rebuilt. Jessie can't wait to spend summer flirting with boys, soaking up the sun, and connecting with her two cousins. She's expecting magic.

      Magic doesn't come easy.

She falls for a guy, who treats her as one of the guys. She's hanging out with his brother in hopes that he will finally notice her. Is she too busy throwing herself at Liam that she completely misses another boy?

Her cousin, Lara, is so new to the family that she falls for a boy before she realizes he's her step-cousin. She can't stop thinking about him.

Greer is new to the family and only in Maine while her parents work through their marital issues. Usually a heart-breaker, she finds a boy that intrigues her. Immediately, he makes a snap decision about her and she's up to the challenge of proving him wrong.

Will it be a summer of disappointed romances and backstabbing cousins, or will it be a summer to remember?

Hailey Abbott starts SUMMER GIRLS three years after the fire burned down the family cottage. A new generation of Tuttle girls is ruling the beach and the guys this summer.

Abbott again nails the perfect summer novel.
