    Synopsis

For decades, Gallup scientists have researched the topic of leadership. They’ve surveyed a million work teams, conducted more than 50,000 in-depth interviews with leaders, and even interviewed 20,000 followers to ask what they admired in the most important leader in their life. The results of that research are unveiled in Strengths-Based Leadership. Using Gallup’s discoveries, authors Tom Rath and Barry Conchie identify three keys to being an effective leader and use firsthand accounts from highly successful leaders — including the founder of Teach for America and the president of The Ritz-Carlton — to show how each person’s unique talents can drive their success. A new version of Gallup’s popular StrengthsFinder assessment helps readers discover their own special gifts, and specific strategies show them how to lead with their top five talents. Loaded with novel research, inspiring stories, and actionable ideas, Strengths-Based Leadership offers a new roadmap for leading people toward a better future.

Adds to the Strengths Based Seriesby TheUtleyReader

December 27, 2009: For those familiar with the Strengths Finder materials coming out of the Gallup organization, Strengths Based Leadership adds a new dimension to the discussion. I have found it helpful in leadership training in our congregation. For several years I've thought that Gallup was publishing new books without new substance. This one takes their program a step further. The next step would be a huge leap - offer an individual profile based on the particular interactions of a person's five signature strengths. Hope they get there.

December 14, 2009: The strength-based leadership model is another way of looking at how you interact with people and how you learn. It didn't seem any more amazing than any of the other similar test I've taken. However, it seems to be as accurate as any other.

The book comes with a code for an online test; the site then gives you the results that tie back to the info in the book.

Interesting, especially if you haven't done tests like this before.
