Published in partnership with the American Statistical Association, this collection of essays shows how statistics is used in the court room and in the gene lab, in the war on spam, and in predicting the quality of wine or the migration of bees. Real tools for applying statistics to different fields, including surveys, experiments, and observational studies, are featured in each essay. Essays are written in engaging language accessible to undergraduate and graduate students, and include chapter questions. The book includes a few color photos and maps.
