Starship Troopers is a classic novel by one of science fiction's greatest writers of all time and is now a Tri-Star movie. In one of Heinlein's most controversial bestsellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the universe -- and into battle with the Terran Mobile Infantry against mankind's most frightening enemy.
With Earth embroiled in a vast interplanetary war with the "Bugs," a young recruit in the Federal Reserves relates his experiences training in boot camp and as a junior officer in the Terran Mobile Infantry.
More Reviews and RecommendationsA science fiction pioneer, Robert A. Heinlein wrote popular stories that doubled as vessels for his political and cultural observations. In classics such as Stranger in a Strange Land and Starship Troopers, Heinlein blended suspenseful adventure with (sometimes controversial) visions of alternate worlds.

August 04, 2009: Except for the first and last chapter, it is all about boot camp as a space marine. I was very disappointed in the book. I couldn't wait for it to end. There were some great discussion points made by the class room instructor that are worthy of lengthy discussion but overall I read this as quick as possible after getting half way through and realized there is almost no combat action at all.

October 30, 2008: Starship Troopers was an interesting read. There was not a part of it that bored me. While the characters aren't deep emotionally, their actions give them depth. Conversely, most of the plot is about human nature and the actions are used to drive it. While Starship Troopers has action and is action driven, I wouldn't recommend reading it for the action. I would read it for the messages and ideas that are clearly presented through the actions and conversations of the characters.
