    Synopsis

Before there is peace, blood will spill blood...

The Clans have finally arrived in their new home, following the prophecies of their warrior ancestors. The journey was difficult enough, but now they must struggle to establish territories and learn the hidden dangers of this unfamiliar world. Most importantly, Leafpaw knows they must find a replacement for the Moonstone — a place to communicate with StarClan. Otherwise there will be no way to choose new leaders, no way to share medicine cat secrets, and no way to know whether the Clans are on the right path.

The future seems uncertain, and more than one cat is harboring sinister plans that could lead to violence and darkness. As all the warriors wait for a sign, some of them begin to realize that the threats they face in the forest may not be as perilous as the threats they face from within. . . .

    Children's Literature

This title is a book of fantasy for the cat lover. A visit to the website for this series will give the reader an idea of what they are getting into when they start one of the "Warriors" books. This is not a series to be taken lightly. The first six books were for the series Warriors. Starlight is book four of the second series, Warriors: The New Prophecy. There are four clans of cats: the ThunderClan, the ShadowClan, the WindClan, and the RiverClan, as well as the StarClan or the afterlife. Each clan has a leader, a deputy, a medicine cat, warriors, as well as apprentices. There are also Queens and Elders in the mix. This story joins the cats as they reach the end of a long and treacherous journey where the clans have left their homes to find new territories in which to live. Cleverly written from the viewpoints of the felines, the author has provided the elements that make a story interesting. A large number of cats are involved, with great descriptions, whose personalities are obvious. As with any good story there is intrigue, romance, jealousy, family problems, and connections, with a little humor thrown in. This story provides an interesting take on the animal world. However, there are so many characters, it is hard to keep them straight from one another and in the right clan. From what is alluded to regarding previous books in the series and future books, this particular book is mild, with little violence. One of the main characters, Leafpaw, renamed, Leafpool, who is a medicine cat for ThunderClan, has a vision of the future where she hears, "Before there is peace, blood will spill blood, and the lake will run red." This definitely sets the mood for the nextbook in the series, Twilight.

November 11, 2009: I am a big fan of the Warriors book by Erin Hunter. Starlight is a wonderful book to continue the series of the clan cats. It gripped me from the prologue, it was great to see how the journey to the lake came to a close and the clans moved through a tough time.
