    Synopsis

THE NEXT CHAPTER IN THE EXTRAORDINARY HISTORY OF THE STAR WARS GALAXY BEGINS HERE. . . .

After a violent civil war and the devastation wrought by the now-fallen Darth Caedus, the Galactic Alliance is in crisis–and in need. From all corners, politicians, power brokers, and military leaders converge on Coruscant for a crucial summit to restore order, negotiate differences, and determine the future of their unified worlds. But even more critical, and far more uncertain, is the future of the Jedi.

In a shocking move, Chief of State Natasi Daala orders the arrest of Luke Skywalker for failing to prevent Jacen Solo’s turn to the dark side and his subsequent reign of terror as a Sith Lord. But it’s only the first blow in an anti-Jedi backlash fueled by a hostile government and suspicious public. When Jedi Knight Valin Horn, scion of a politically influential family, suffers a mysterious psychotic break and becomes a dangerous fugitive, the Jedi become the target of a media-driven witch hunt. Facing conviction on the damning charges, Luke must strike a bargain with the calculating Daala: his freedom in exchange for his exile from Coruscant and from the Jedi Order.

Though forbidden to intervene in Jedi affairs, Luke is determined to keep history from being repeated. With his son, Ben, at his side, Luke sets out to unravel the shocking truth behind Jacen Solo’s corruption and downfall. But the secrets he uncovers among the enigmatic Force mystics of the distant world Dorin may bring his quest–and life as he knows it–to a sudden end. And all the while, another Jedi Knight, consumed by the same madness as Valin Horn, is headed forCoruscant on a fearsome mission that could doom the Jedi Order . . . and devastate the entire galaxy.

    Jackie Cassada - Library Journal

While Luke Skywalker and son Ben seek answers that will allow them to return from exile, their friends and surviving family deal with the aftermath of the devastating civil war described in the "Legacy of the Force" series. In this first in a projected nine-book series chronicling the future of the new Republic, Star Wars® veteran Allston (Betrayal), one of three authors for the series, captures the feel of this popular space opera while creating new directions for familiar characters. Purchase for inevitable demand.

    Excellent Listenby Book_Savvy_Dad

September 27, 2009: This was my first adventure into Star Wars audiobook listening and was pleasantly surprised. First, the book was unabridged and read by an excellent narrator who provided the necessary level of characterization. Second, the producers took the time to add Star Wars sound effects, lending to the audiobook's entertainment. Third, the price was close to right. I spend a tremendous amount of time on the road and agonize over which books are worth the expenditure (audiobooks are not cheap, and it is hard to find good rents). This book was reasonably priced at Barnes and Noble Online, especially when coupled with the bi-weekly member's discount. Overall, this was a very good deal for me. I will likely continue with the series because it has an interesting storyline.

I Also Recommend: Star Wars Fate of the Jedi #2.

July 25, 2009: After reading all of the legacy of the force series I had expected a sharper and more well written opening and was dissapointed but in the end the book became a good read. Allston must of had a few off days writing but in the end it turned out ok. B
