    Synopsis

When the Imperial prison barge Purge–temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy’s most ruthless killers, rebels, scoundrels, and thieves–breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting, derelict, and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back–bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.

And death is only the beginning.

The Purge’s half-dozen survivors–two teenage brothers, a sadistic captain of the guards, a couple of rogue smugglers, and the chief medical officer, the lone woman on board–will do whatever it takes to stay alive. But nothing can prepare them for what lies waiting aboard the Star Destroyer amid its vast creaking emptiness that isn’t really empty at all. For the dead are rising: soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry.

    Library Journal

Imperial prison ship Purge breaks down in space near an apparently abandoned Star Destroyer that might hold the necessary parts to repair the ship. What the crew finds aboard the derelict battleship brings a nightmarish reality to ship doctor Zahara Cody, a pair of brothers imprisoned for their father's supposed crimes, and two very special prisoners held in the Purge's deepest confines. Horror writer Schreiber (Chase the Dead) combines his knowledge of psychological and visceral terror with his love for Star Wars® to create the first horror novel set in George Lucas's classic film and storytelling universe. VERDICT This gory tale of survival against unspeakable odds should appeal to a multitude of fans, though it is not for the squeamish.

November 21, 2009: Star Wars rules. Zombies are okay too...but not so much when you've heard the story a dozen different ways. This book would be the thirteenth. It's a fine read just to read Star Wars but, well, it's an old theme with an only 'just barely' new twist to it. As a scientist I have to keep a very imginative and forgiving attitude- but you really have to be young or not-so-educated to buy the plot.

November 12, 2009: really enjoyed this book for many reasons, including the style of writing (it was refreshing to get an author to write this book who is primarily a horror writer and has never written for the Star Wars universe), the characters and the tension built within the story. I did feel, however, that it fell short. First, it was too short, it felt like an 80 minute movie. Second, the ending was a bit weak. With such a strong build up and character development I expected more than I got. Regarless, I love it and have recommended it to my friends.
