Fashionista. Comedian. Thief?
Brand-new school, brand-new me? Try again. Having a famous sister doesn’t make me special at my posh Beverly Hills academy. But I am getting a lot of attention. Photos are disappearing faster than MTV swag bags from my classmates’ lockers–and blaming the new girl is the reaction du jour. I can't bother my almost-boyfriend Jeremy with my problems–and solving Project Photo Frame-Up is only one of them. The rest of my schedule: convincing my friends that I’m not a kleptomaniac, helping Eva nail her Serious Actress audition, and doing Jeremy a favor that makes my brain hurt. Is a Hollywood ending in sight? Not. Even. Close.
In "The Hollywood Sisters" series' fourth book, younger sister Jessica Ortiz slowly starts adjusting to life in LA (and in the shadow of older sister's Eva blooming acting career). She even overcomes some of her trademark shyness and makes two good friends at her new school. However, LA is never predictable, and life is more fun with a little mysterythough it would be nice if the mystery did not involve the disappearance of Jessie's picture of maybe-boyfriend Jeremy, the pilfering of other girls' locker decorations as well, and basically everyone at Jessie's school thinking that she is behind the strange thefts. On top of that, Eva's career is really going strong now, and Jessica may have to replace her sister at their abuela's community center's annual talent show. Jessica is a fun, secretly spunky main character surrounded by an equally enjoyable cast of family and friends. Her struggles to win over her classmates, solidify her sort-of relationship with Jeremy, and ultimately prove her innocence should appeal equally to many young girls looking for a bit of glamorous mystery, and their parents looking for a bit of good, clean fun (or an alternative to the antics of often questionable real-world Hollywood role models). January 03, 2009:
Jessica and Eva Ortiz are separated for the first time since moving to put Eva closer to the acting business.
While Eva is continuing with her acting, Jessica is forced to attend the posh school in the neighborhood, full of the children of rich people. Unfortunately, Jess doesn't exactly fit in, and her shy-girl exterior has surfaced once again.
But that's not all. Pictures are disappearing from everyone's lockers - and all fingers point to her.
STAR QUALITY is, hands down, the best book of THE HOLLYWOOD SISTERS series so far. The plot has moved away from the drama surrounding the set of Two Sisters and romance to something everyone, no matter who they are, can relate to - school and fitting in.
Though Eva continues as her famous self, Jess becomes even more realistic in this book, and I really think it added so much more to the story. For those who enjoy the romance in the series - don't worry! The romance is still there, though it's not such a major part of the plot.
Once again, I recommend this to all tween and young teen girls. It will make for a fun, enjoyable, and semi-fast read that isn't just your normal drama.
