    Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author Linda Howard captivates readers in the deeply romantic tale of a contemporary woman who unravels an extraordinary mystery from the past . . . by living it.

A scholar specializing in ancient manuscripts, Grace St. John never imagined that a cache of old documents she discovered was the missing link to a lost Celtic treasure. But as soon as she deciphers the legend of the Knights of the Templar — long fabled to hold the key to unlimited power — Grace becomes the target of a ruthless killer bent on abusing the coveted force. Determined to stop him, Grace needs the help of a warrior bound by duty to uphold the Templar's secret for all eternity. But to find him — and to save herself — she must go back in time . . . to fourteenth-century Scotland . . . and to Black Niall, a fierce man of dark fury and raw, unbridled desire. . . .

    Publishers Weekly

Bestselling author Howard (Shades of Twilight) offers a romantic time-travel thriller with a fascinating premise, some gripping passages and steamy sex, though offset by a heroine whose actions defy credibility and a story that goes nowhere for more than half the book. In the 14th century, Niall of Scotland, illegitimate half brother of Robert the Bruce and one of the few surviving Knights Templar, is made Guardian of the Treasure, a collection of powerful relics that includes the Holy Grail. In the present day, Grace St. John, a translator of ancient languages, finds herself in possession of a document that could reveal the treasure's location to the evil Foundation. When her husband and brother are murdered by the head of the Foundation, Grace believes the police will blame her and she becomes a fugitive. More than half the book is taken up by her efforts, recounted in mind-numbing detail, to flee the Foundation and to uncover facts the reader already knows. When she finally transports to the 14th century, Grace refuses to enlist Niall's aid in protecting the Treasure, even though she knows he is the Guardian. Whatever her intellectual wattage is supposed to be, Grace acts like a dim bulb. (Mar.)

August 28, 2009: First, let me give you a warning that you will not be able to put down this book until you're done, so make sure you have enough time to read uninterrupted.

I loved, loved, loved this book. Although the romance took second place in this book (the hero & heroine didn't meet until hundreds of pages later), I fell in love with Grace, the heroine. Linda Howard really fleshed out Grace's character to the max. We saw Grace's change from a sheltered scholar / wife / sister living in a small town, to a street smart woman on the run who must be able to defend herself from a bunch of murderous group who killed her husband and brother. I have rarely read a romance book with a female character so well developed, so strong, yet so vulnerable which made her so real. In the end, this is definitely Grace's story and I couldn't help but cheered for her when she got her just ending.

March 23, 2009: WOW! This book was amazing. Such an original, crazy time traveling thrill ride with a historical hero falling for a today's society, ordinary woman. This was my first reading of Linda Howard's and I became a fan instantly! I have never read a book like this before and all the other ones before it seem kind of dull. Linda Howard has me hooked and set the bar pretty high for me to like any other authors.

It's about love, danger, loads of history, and tragedy! With many twists and turns that leave you biting your bottom lip until the very end!

HUNT THIS BOOK DOWN!!!! It's a KEEPER!

I Also Recommend: Death Angel, Ice, Darkfever (Fever Series #1), Immortal Highlander (Highlander Series #6), After the Night.
