Biography

Craig Lockard (PhD, University of Wisconsin, Madison) is the Ben and Joyce Rosenberg Professor of History in the Department of Social Change and Development at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, where he teaches courses on Asian, African, comparative, and world history. He has taught at SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Stony Brook, University of Bridgeport, and University of Malaya (Fulbright Professor). His published works span a number of topics: modern world history, Southeast Asian (especially Malaysian) history, politics, society, and popular music. Lockard's monographs include Dance of Life: Popular Music and Politics in Modern Southeast Asia (University of Hawaii Press) and The Rise and Changing Status of the Southeast Asian History Field (University of Wisconsin), among others.Professor Lockard has conducted various workshops for secondary school teachers on the history of developing nations and has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of World History and The History Teacher. Formerly the Southeast Asia Book Review Editor for the Journal of Asian Studies, he is the Founding Secretary of the World History Association.
