January 16, 2001: This was my first 'used' text purchase via the Internet; the text arrived in excellent condition. The book was purchased in order to study for the IL School Social Work Exam and was helpful for the exam. In fact, I learned that Allen-Meares assisted in the development of this test. Although the content of the book earned five stars, I felt that it was necessary to deduct a star for improper spelling and grammatical errors, as well as for the lack of updating some of the content in this third edition. Beginners and those experienced in the field would find the text very informative and useful as a reference text. The chapter entitled 'Evaluation of Programs and Practices' would also be relevant to social workers in other fields of practice, as would the information on the prevention of violence in the schools.
