August 22, 2009: Jed Baker, Ph. D., author of Social Skills Training, acknowledges that students acquire social skills best in the natural school environment with typical peers. He acknowledges that these students also need a safe environment where members feel welcomed and accepted among peers. His book includes assessment inventories for appropriate social skills to be taught along with reproducible worksheets for a number of the different social skills needed. This book is a great guide for anyone who is investigating ways to teach social skills to individuals with Asperger Syndrome or related social disorders. Baker's guide helped me with my thesis on Asperger Syndrome in girls and strategies to teach all students with the disorder in public schools. I will plan on using it as an educator of students with disabilities and also as a parent of a daughter with Asperger Syndrome. I highly recommend it!
