Key sections provide clinically relevant coverage of soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, and neurosurgery.

Reviewer:Guillaume R Ragetly, DMV, IPSAV (University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine)
Description:This is the third edition of a complete review of small animal surgery.
Purpose:This revision details the newest procedures and provides up-to-date references in a reasonably sized book with a user-friendly format that varies minimally between chapters.
Audience:It is written primarily for general small animal practitioners as well as for students. The detailed review helps readers to learn and understand basic and advanced principles and surgeries.
Features:The book first details general broad surgical principles. It then describes, successively, soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, and neurosurgery with, for each chapter, a general principle section (including definitions, preoperative concerns, anatomy, surgical technique and postoperative concerns) and a section on specific diseases that includes, in addition to very detailed surgical management, practical material for diagnosis and medical case management. The consistent format with an emphasis on important concerns, key concepts, and precautions, the extensive index and the excellent art program and numerous tables and boxes make this book very attractive. The relatively small number of either recent or classic references included with short descriptions for each part helps readers find more detailed specific information.
Assessment:This very helpful update gives all the keys to students and practitioners to improve in the surgical field. An e-dition is also available, including searchable text, continuous updates, interactivereferences, case presentations, video clips, electronic image collection, client information sheets, rarely performed procedures and a fracture planner. This e-dition will certainly be very helpful for students and practitioners as well as residents and specialists in surgery.
