Six kids. One shipwreck. One desert island. They didn't want to be on the boat in the first place. They were sent there as punishment, or as a character-building experience. Now the adults are gone, and the quest for survival has begun.
Forced to live and work together, six children fight through daily chores, arguments, disappointments and frustrations as they try to survive on this long, strange, terrifying adventure. Luke, J.J, Will, Lyssa, Charla, and Ian earned this trip by being mischievous or unruly; their parents had enough and did not know what else to do. This trip's purpose is to give them a second chance. The boat trip is guided by two men, the captain, James Cascadden, and the first mate, Mr. Radford. The children live in close conditions and become the crew of the ship. The captain teaches them lessons, and the mate guides them throughout their daily chores and activities. Each of the characters has his or her own unique problems and abilities, but they all agree on one thing: They do not want to be on this ship headed out to sea. Throughout the story, the children face life or death decisions. Both their captain and the first mate abandon them on a sinking ship with no food and no hope. The lessons they learn are numerous; they are forced to swallow their grudges and work together. This novel is an enjoyable look into what can happen to six children who need direction and are sent on a journey to reshape their lives. Little did they know they would end up shipwrecked on an island with nothing but a glimmer of hope. 2001, Scholastic, 129 pp Ages young adult. Reviewer: Nicole August

April 22, 2009: This story is about six badly behaved kids who are sent to a big sailboat that isn't so luxurious. They all have long, horrible, shifts to help them figure out they need to behave better. Luke, Lyssa, Will, J.J., Ian, and Charla are stuck at sea with each other. A few big things happen causing them to jump off the boat. They all get split up in the middle of the wide open sea. Four of them find each other while the two others are a mystery. They have a floating cabin that can hold three people. Since there is four of them one has to hang off the side in what they call shark bait position. Does the book live up to its name? Do they find an island? Read to find out. I would defiantly recommend this book to older kids because it might be confusing to younger kids.

January 20, 2009: Book Review: The book was a great short read. I read the book in a few hours. One adult died and the other one left on the life boat when they were sleeping. Six children are stuck on a sinking ship with no adults. If you like survival and action books you will love this book.
