    Synopsis

"A man of knowledge is free...he has no honor, no dignity, no family, no home, no country, but only life to be lived."--don Juan In 1961 a young anthropologist subjected himself to an extraordinary apprenticeship to bring back a fascinating glimpse of a Yaqui Indian's world of "non-ordinary reality" and the difficult and dangerous road a man must travel to become "a man of knowledge." Yet on the bring of that world, challenging to all that we believe, he drew back.

Then in 1968, Carlos Castaneda returned to Mexico, to don Juan and his hallucinogenic drugs, and to a world of experience no man from our Western civilization had ever entered before.

December 28, 2006: I think if you take some of the statements out of context and just apply them to yourself, whether the story is completely honest or not, the book and the ideas don't seem so bad

January 28, 2005: o This book proves itself again and again. New books keep coming out that validate it in one way or another. This book is about `seeing? the spirit world, and so much has come out in the years since about what it means to see?Barbara brennan carolyn myss mark rich donna eden jack angelo etc etc etc?.castaneda is the original! Shame those who say he lies ? they then go out and buy books all about the reality of what he wrote about a long time ago.
