Synopsis

After a year spent trying to prevent a catastropic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson—a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any "normal" friends.

But things don't stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: The magical borders which protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters—the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millenia—only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name...the Bermuda Triangle.

Now Percy and his friends—Grover, Annabeth, and Tyson—must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family—one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

Child Magazine

In a comic blend of Greek mythology and modern life, our protagonist, Percy (a half-god, half-human with ADHD), finds himself in a seventh-grade dodgeball game overrun by giant cannibalistic monsters. Trouble continues to follow Percy and his classmates as they journey to the Sea of Monsters -- aka the Bermuda Triangle -- to save not only Camp Half-Blood (a summer haven for demigods), but Percy's satyr friend Grover, who's being held hostage by a Cyclops, and, oh yes, all of Western Civilization. Featuring the cliff-hangers and sassy attitude kids loved in The Lightning Thief -- plus a surprising new family secret -- this outstanding sequel should win over a fresh legion of fans. (Ages 8 to 12)
Child magazine's Best Children's Book Awards 2006

October 30, 2008: The Sea of Monsters; Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan is a great fantasy book. I really liked this book because the characters always refer back to the first book because The Lightning Thief when they remember something that happened. Also I liked how the author used dialogue for the characters and not just say it himself. The setting of this book is mostly in New York at Camp Half-Blood which to mortals, it?s only a strawberry field, but to half-blood?s it?s a camp for each of the different God?s kids.
One of the major conflicts is that when the tree Thailia is poisoned and can?t secure Camp Half-Blood, three kids: Percy , Annabeth and Tyson must go out on a journey to the Sea of Monsters( known to mortals as The Bermuda Triangle) and find evil master mind. During the story Percy Jackson has a dream of his friend Grover in need of help, but when Grover tells him he found the Fleece to save the camp, the camp travels out to find him. Also an old enemy Luke is so suspicious of this crime, but Percy doesn?t know what he?s capable of. Next, when the God of Thieves helps him, Percy wonders? is this good or a trick?
The author makes this interesting because he?s not the only one talking, or narrating he uses dialogue of the characters to do the talking. This book would only be recommend for those above 10 and who like fantasy books. You will not drop this book until you?re done.
