Synopsis

Regina Harris has been through it all, orphaned at 13 and forced to use street wits to survive. Now living in Harlem with her four-year-old daughter, she thinks her life has finally stabilized--but where there's Regina, there's always drama. She runs into a former boyfriend and, against her better judgment and the advice of friends, she resumes their steamy affair. Sparks fly when her U.S. Congressman ex-hubby decides he wants her back and her boyfriend decides he won't let her go. Life is no less dramatic for her three best friends--Yvonne can't tear herself from a lawyer turned violent junkie, Tamika and her family are being targeted by street thugs bent on revenge, and Puddin' still can't resist using any man in her sights to support bad habits.

October 26, 2008: Regina Harris is back as the sequel to Satin Doll continues with the drama known as Regina's life. A few years have passed and Regina is still the same around the way chick, only a few years older and wiser. The divorced mother of one has decided to jump back into the dating pool after a special someone from her past resurfaces. Regina must decide between the past and the present to determine her future. Also returning and adding laughs and drama are her girls Yvonne, Puddin' (how could anyone forget Puddin') and Tamika as well as her niece who is not such a little girl anymore.

Satin Nights started out slowly, but eventually picked up its pace making for an enjoyable read. The reminders of the events in Satin Doll were definitely helpful. Karen did it in such a way that you didn't feel like she was retelling Satin Doll all over again. It was a good balance. Karen is back! Satin Nights is an entertaining and recommended read.

September 18, 2006: From sacrifice to success.....a satisfying read (for now, surely there is a continuation) read. I read this in one day. I was captured by the characters and their ambitious efforts to live their lives out through a destiny fed by their dreams and fears. It displays the reality of women and a minority group in this century with reoccurring themes of unity along with struggle and support. It's truthful approach is gripping and relates to the lives of people who have been successful and people who are on the path to success, this is an excellent read with informative cues as to how the real world is. After all everybody needs somebody(looking fwd to a continuation)!
