July 25, 2009: As a professional programmer this book was easy to read. Most of the material was easy to understand after first pass. It pre-supposes one already knows java. I've been doing Java for 5 years on and off and I learned things through the Study Guide. The exam sample questions each have to be read really carefully. I made a first pass through the book in about 3 weeks. Next I will go through it again at a quicker pace and hopefully be ready for the exam. The section on Generics could have been more concise. However this topic really needs a full explanation because it has so many dimensions that is unlike classic Java.
