January 18, 2001: This is a very gripping story . . . a lot of different characters and subplots all winding together to the conclusion. And I followed it every step of the way . . . almost in a single sitting. I bought this book because I had so enjoyed his first book, 'Monster' and I wasn't disappointed. Not a pretty story . . . but that's not why we read true crime. The story was vividly portrayed and well documented. The author could have been there every step of the way--I certainly felt that I had been. I came away knowing the various participants in the story and caring about them. Very well-written and a good read all around.
