Synopsis

The no-holds-barred autobiography of the musician who has spent the last thirty years as a Rolling Stone

The New York Times - Ira Robbins

In the generous and sincere tone of a speechmaker at a retirement party, Wood recounts the earning and spending of several fortunes, copious cocaine and alcohol intake, women he's loved, the great musicians and celebrities he's known and farcical scrapes with the law, drug dealers and other nefarious businessmen—none of which he takes too seriously. But what could have been the saddening diary of a dissolute scoundrel finds its charm in his unabashed enthusiasms for his second wife, Jo; snooker; thoroughbreds; the television show "CSI"; and Ireland. The balance of mischief and decency seesaws comfortably until the coda…Like any good memoirist, Wood is shamelessly honest and devoted to his own irresponsibility.

January 17, 2008: I purchased 'Ronnie' because it was marked down to 50% off at my local Barnes and Noble. I had just finished 'Wonderful Tonight' by Patti Boyd and 'Clapton' by Eric Clapton - enjoyed both of the above books - but surprisingly - I REALLY liked 'Ronnie'. I liked his folksy manner. He certainly did his fair share of drugs, sex and of course rock & roll but I loved the insight into the whole 'rock & roll' way of life. Never knew that all these 'rockers' hung out together - Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, George,John,Paul,Ringo, Elton John - just to name a few. And of course Ronnie knew them all. One thing that floored me reading Ron's book was the fact that he had several episodes where he was 'broke'. He either spent too much money on drugs or was spinning tall tales I find it very difficult to believe that any member of the Rolling Stones - especially Ronnie who has been with them for over 30 years - would be pinching any pennies. Just can't be true - especially given the royalties that just their CD's generate. Not to worry, Ron has embarked on another mini-career - he now dabbles in art. If you love the Rolling Stones or just the era of vintage rock, you will enjoy strolling down memory lane with Ron Wood.
