The Apocalypse of Abraham is one of the most significant ancient documents to have been preserved solely in translation into Slavonic, says Kulik (Hebrew U. of Jerusalem), and its lost Hebrew, or perhaps Palestinian Aramaic, original may be the earliest mystical writing of Judeo-Christian tradition, and a missing link between early apocalyptic and medieval Hekhalot traditions. He furthers the scholarship on it, arguing that its extraordinary obscurity cannot be due only to corruption in inner-Slavonic transmission, but probably go back to an early and sometimes very literal translation. There is no index. The Society of Biblical Literature publishes the book and distributes the paperbound edition (1-58983-087-3, $24.95); Brill distributes the clothbound edition.
