Scholars of economics, including some well-known figures such as Robert Heilbroner, Richard Musgrave, and James Duesenberry, present 18 contributions, organized into six parts, each of which includes an introductory essay discussing the various contributions made by the authors and putting the selections into context. Sections address background issues to functional finance; assessing the inflation barrier; fiscal and monetary linkages; functional finance and full employment; and ELR (employer of last resort) and automatic stabilizers. Contributions consist of papers presented at an international conference titled Functional Finance and Full Employment, held in spring 1998 at New York's New School for Social Research.
