March 25, 2008: Simply put, Reckless Road is a MUST own for all fans of things rock! It goes without saying, if you're a Guns N' Roses fan, this book is dogma as it concerns GNR pre-Appetite For Destruction, up until the band is signed by Geffen. It is not only a pictorial history of the band on the Sunset Strip, gig-by-gig, but also a storybook with insight provided via interviews with the central characters that made Guns N' Roses the most dangerous rock band in the world. Also included, for each gig documented, is a set list of the songs played. It is literally a Ken Burns-like documentary of the evolution of the legendary album, Appetite For Destruction. All that being said, the lynchpin of the book are the pictorials. Tons of never before seen photographs of the band are provided. From a time when only the lucky few who lived in Hollywood and were regulars on the Sunset scene had the chance to see early Guns N' Roses live, Reckless Road offers all 'late-comers' visual evidence of the raw, unadulterated talent Guns possessed during their club days. The book is not just a hodgepodge of pictures thrown together in a haphazard way. The book is arranged and organized very well, and it reads very easy. There is a level of organization to the book that almost makes you feel as if you were at each and every gig Guns played back in 1985-1987. As if the book is not enough, it is also an 'enhanced book', which means the user can log onto a website provided in the book, with their access code, and view exclusive content such as interviews, and even listen to audio from gigs Guns performed pre-Appetite. All-in-all, this book is well worth the money, and a must own for all rock and roll fans, especially as it documents the last truely great American rock band. Classic in every sense.
