Synopsis

Gemma Doyle is looking forward to a holiday from Spence Academy—spending time with her friends in the city, attending balls in fancy gowns with plunging necklines, and dallying with the handsome Lord Denby. Yet amid these distractions, her visions intensify—visions of three girls dressed in white, to whom something horrific has happened that only the realms can explain.

The lure is strong, and soon Gemma, Felicity, and Ann are turning flowers into butterflies in the enchanted world that Gemma takes them to. To the girls' great joy, their beloved Pippa is there as well, eager to complete their circle of friendship.

But all is not well in the realms—or out. Kartik is back, desperately insisting to Gemma that she must bind the magic, lest colossal disaster befall her. Gemma is willing to comply, for this would bring her face-to-face with her late mother's greatest friend, now Gemma's foe—Circe. Until Circe is destroyed, Gemma cannot live out her destiny. But finding Circe proves a most perilous task. . . .

This sumptuous companion to A Great and Terrible Beauty teems with Victorian thrills and chills that play out against the rich backdrop of 1895 London, a place of shadows and light . . . where inside great beauty can lie a rebel angel.

Publishers Weekly

"Although Bray's follow-up to A Great and Terrible Beauty feels a bit like a bridge between the launch and the next installment in her series," said PW, "fans of the author's first novel will nonetheless remain enthralled." Ages 12-up. (Dec.) Copyright 2007 Reed Business Information.

Customer Rating for this product is 4 out of 5 Not so 'Angelic'

It was just as good as the first. As in the first book, though, I still find no connection between the girls and it bugs me. They seem more cold toward each other than ever. They have no sympathy or kindness oward each other. I find it irritating that they consider themselves friends. It's easy to tell they are using Gemma to enter the Realms. I also find Gemma a weak heroine at most times, except for the end where she...well, if you read it, you know what I mean. Still, it's a great book that I reccomend.

rebel angels is an amazing book. it has tons of amazing characters like gemma doyle, kartik, felicity, and ann. it has some very interesting creatures like the gorgon a ship that talks and is fored to tell the truth by the power of the order. the order as it is called, is a high ranking group of women that controled the realms, a place of magic and beauty where you can do anything you ever dreamed about, years before gemma was even born. the order however lost their powers, because someone in their midst betrayed them by wanting more power than she deserved. gemma, sadly, has to become the 'one' the highest rank in the order and has to find the scattered members of the order. by doing this she runs into her dead old friend pippa and her dead mothers old friend and enemy, circe, who's minon is the one who killed poor pippa. circe has to be defeated in order to save the realms and the real world. before I give away the ending I want to say that rebel angels is the most amazing book I have ever read and coming from me thats saying something.
