Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Anna L. Jarrett, PhD, ACNS/ACNP, BC (Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System)
Description:This is a great book for code teams or rapid response teams! The BLS is current and the algorithms are easy to find and read. The side tabs make "quick-find" much faster and the pocket size makes this easy to carry to the bedside as a decision-making resource. Since the first edition was published in 2003, it is time for an update of this valuable book.
Purpose:The title denotes the purpose. Every bedside clinician knows the worth of this book.
Audience:It is appropriate for residents, practitioners, students, physicians, and critical care nurses.
Features:The book covers BLS to ACLS and essential knowledge required to manage the care of patients post-arrest. It includes medications, algorithms, ECG interpretation and management, and particularly ACS and stroke. There is no best part of the book, because the whole exceeds the individual parts. The algorithms are valuable to have for managing a cardiac event. The book is also water and stain resistant, so it can be cleaned.
Assessment:This is a useful, information-packed pocket resource that bedside clinicians need when patients suffer critical events. It is excellent for emergency room physicians and nurses, intensive care nurses, residents, physicians, and nurse practitioners. It is a must for rapid response teams.
